Meet the Band

Todd Hiatt

Guitarist and mandolinist Todd Hiatt was born in Mt. Airy, NC and grew up playing music with his grandpa in church. He has played at prestigious venues like University of Chicago Folk Festival and National Folk Festival and is frequent winner at fiddlers conventions across the region. He has played and recorded with the Buckstankle Boys, the New Smokey Valley Boys, and Trish Fore. His driving guitar and colorful runs anchor the band in the dance traditions that the band was founded on.

Chris Johnson

Banjoist, bassist, and band historian Chris Johnson was born and raised in Alleghany County and grew up surrounded by traditional and country music. He actually met Lucas through the Alleghany JAM program when he was teaching and Chris was in the sixth grade. Lucas and Chris played with Justin and Jerel Willey in an early band called Borderline before Chris briefly moved to Winston-Salem. Lucas Pasley

Fiddler and singer Lucas Pasley lives in Alleghany County, the home of his father’s family and the place where Lucas spent summers while growing up. He is from a music family, including Red Fox Chasers fiddler Guy Brooks and Wilkes County fiddler Fred Mcbride, but it's thanks to Trish Fore, a dear college friend, that he found his way into oldtime music. Lucas has also tried to promote and preserve the music of Alleghany and with Kilby Spencer, he has released several CD’s through the Field Recorders Collective. Kyle Dean Smith

Bassist and lead guitarist, Kyle Dean Smith is from Grayson Country, VA and has lived a life deeply entrenched in oldtime and country music. His father, Kyle "Snake" Smith, was a well-known and respected guitarist and banjoist in the region and played with many notable musicians such as George Pegram, Kyle Creed, Fred Cockerham, and Tommy Jarrell; this was Kyle Dean's childhood. Kyle Dean is a multi-instrumentalist who was appeared on countless recordings with artists such as Martha Spencer and Kitty Amaral and performed with artists such as Kenny and Amanda Smith and John Hartford.
